Holidays hold magic and I’ve been eager to tap into it! And so does a cozy slow Sunday. So I’ve created a list of 8 perfect ways to have a holiday-themed, slow Sunday to spark your holiday spirit.
Keeping with the cozy, simple, and fun holiday experience, that’s perfect for anyone and everyone craving a holiday vibe on a slow Sunday morning.
It’s essential to take a step back and reconnect with the true meaning of the season.
Sprinkling holiday activities into your Sunday, escaping the stress and chaos of the season, finding your very own rhythm and excitement. It’s a chance to recharge your batteries, nourish your soul, and truly savor the magic of Christmas.
Here are 8 ways to have a holiday-themed slow Sunday! BTW, these are my favorite and I’ll spend several Sundays completing them all, taking every opportunity to unwind, relax, and ignite the Christmas spirit. 🎄
1. Design Your Ultimate Holiday Coffee Station
Stock your coffee station with delicious holiday simple syrups. Maybe a chestnut praline, peppermint, or peppermint mocha? Pull out your special cozy mug .. do you need a new one? Me too! 🙂
2. Create a Personalized Holiday-Themed Playlist
Your future self will appreciate your holiday preparation. You know when those moments come, when you want to throw on the ultimate holiday favorites but you find yourself trying to find it, or constantly pressing next.
So, make that delicious cup of coffee or pour an evening glass of red, put Bluetooth on, and build your ultimate holiday playlist.
3. Plan gift ideas for your friends + family
Oh, do I procrastinate on this! This I have to complete on a slow Sunday and make it as fun and festive as possible or it will never get done.
So, grab your laptop or your notepad and consider who you may want to give a gift to this year. If you are doing a DIY then plan out what you need to create something special.
4. Build a Festive Holiday WallPaper + Vision Board
We love Pinterest for inspiration and holiday wallpapers. Here is a step-by-step guide to creating your own
5. Slow Sunday Holiday-Themed Puzzle or Board Game
Working on a holiday-themed puzzle or playing a festive board game is a perfect solo or group activity. It’s slow-paced, and a relaxing way to spend a holiday Sunday.
6. Bake Classic Holiday Treats
Use one of your slow Sundays to bake traditional holiday treats like gingerbread cookies, cinnamon rolls, or German chocolate cake (this last one may not be holiday-specific for you but it is in our home). The warm, inviting smell will add to the festive atmosphere while being both relaxing and nostalgic.
Maybe drop off some off at a neighbor’s or friend’s?
Also, have you tried Mulled wine (if you’re really going for hygge, holiday theme, then this is a must!)
7. Write Your Holiday Bucket List
Do you have any special recipes or DIY creations you want to experience? ‘Tis the season, right?! Be festive and indulge in those fun homemade projects that you’ve thought about doing.
Here’s a peek at my 2024 holiday bucket list:
- Hang garland around the front door
- Make a 3 layered German Chocolate Cake
- Learn how to knit one of those loopy cozy blankets (top of the list this season)
- Take photos near that gorgeous tree I always think about
- Grab my book, sit at a cafe, and order a hot chocolate (hallmark movie vibes!)
- Matching holiday outfits with pup (it’s not cheezy, it’s cute)
- Host one friend’s holiday-themed cocktail party
- Finish my 2024 TBR (to-be-read books)
What’s on your list?
8. Make Homemade Christmas Potpourri
Of course, this made it to the list! It’s simple and a wallet-friendly way to freshen the place up. Not to mention a festive and comforting touch to any day but especially a holiday-themed slow Sunday.
Items:
- One sliced orange or the peels
- 2 cinnamon sticks, broken in half
- 1/2 cup fresh cranberries
- 1 tsp whole cloves
- Optional Additions:
- Dash of vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon sticks, rosemary (or use pine needles), & any other lovely pinches of spices a
- Add to water
- and simmer on low
And at the end of the day, place it in the fridge and reuse. I use mine 3 times adding more water as needed.
Creating small moments of joy at home is perfect for those who want to embrace the holiday spirit without the crazy energy. Make each day and moment your own and always do what feels most aligned in the moment.
I hope these suggestions and ideas help to bring intention, joy, and a dash of holiday spirit to your slow Sunday plans. Share what you have on your list or any special things you do in these holiday months so stay sane but also productive!
