Simple Slow Morning Routine to Support a Slow Lifestyle

If you don’t know by now a slow life is a life we love and a slow morning routine may be just what you need to get your day started on the right side.

Before jumping in, take a few moments and reflect on your current morning routine. What does your perfect morning look like?

If it’s a slow and unrushed morning you crave, then let’s dive in!

Not to sound like a broken record or to harp about being on your phone but there’s something to not being on it first thing in the morning. From my experience, this means scrolling and ‘being on it’. Of course, check to see if there are any important messages (family, friends but not work) once that is done and all seems ok; place it back on the table stand and start your slow morning routine.

you need to do what feels right for you If your goal is to have an unrushed Slow morning Routine,

An important part of any slow morning routine and a slow lifestyle is intention and being present. Here are four intentional morning routines you can try. Start with one or try them all.

Find movement

If you have dogs then you may have noticed that every time a pup gets up they stretch. I purposefully keep my bedroom floor vacuumed for this one. As you’re waking up, roll to the floor and find spinal and neck movement, open your chest; seriously any movement here would be beneficial.

You could also stay in the bed for this. Just get blood and oxygen flowing throughout the body and brain.

Side note: there’s nothing fancy about this and it does not require a mat or cute clothes. Just find movement, for a moment or two.

Take a cold shower

*Please do your research on this and skip this step if it does not align with your health.

A slow morning goal for me is to support my nervous system. To help my mind and my body perform its best throughout the day. I’ve found a quick cold shower does that.

Start at 10 seconds then move to a hot shower to reward your bravery. I’m currently at the 5 minute cold shower mark and my body craves it! This took time, patience, and a want to do it.

Skin Care Routine

I swear, once you find the products your skin loves and feel good being placed on your skin this becomes such an enjoyable part of any slow morning routine.

I even bought cute headbands to help keep my hair out of my face. Because the cuter I look in this part of the morning the better I feel ๐Ÿ™‚

Alright, we’ve stretched, showered (cold if you’re up for a challenge), and completed your morning glow; now it’s time for liquid love.

Time for your beverage of choice

Turn on the espresso machine, or place a pot of water on the stove. It’s time to hydrate!

Step Outside

Now that you have your beverage of choice in hand; step outside.

Up until this point you were doing something and preparing for your day. Now you have a moment to sip and enjoy.

Yes, you could put the laundry into the washer, or sweep the floor, but if it lasted overnight can it last 5 more minutes? If not, then make an intention to do it the evening before. For me, it’s having dishes in the sink. So, in the evenings I try to place the dishes in the dishwasher or neatly stacked in the sink.

Sometimes you have to set the mood; though in time I would like to get to a place internally where I’m ok with a few dishes in the sink.

Try not to rush these moments. Instead, use this time to take meaningful breaths or to reflect on how you slept, and what your day may look like. This is the part of my slow mornings where I stare out over the balcony and day dream or where I will journal and mind dump.

I wonder what yours will look like?

My hope for you is that however your morning routine happens to shape itself you start your day with intention and purpose.
